Headquartered in Mexico City, Interjet Airlines is a budget carrier, as well as the third largest airline in Mexico. Established in 2005 with just three Airbus A320 aircraft, the airline has grown enormously in the past 15 years. It now operates close to 300 flights a day to 55 different locations in Mexico, the United States, Canada, Latin America and the Caribbean.
Although it is a low-cost airline, Interjet boasts better legroom and more flexible luggage policies than many of its competitors. To make traveling to other international locations easier for its passengers, Interjet also has many alliances with various airlines around the world. The airline has also received numerous awards and honors, such as the distinction "Best Low-Cost Airline and Best Cabin Crew in Mexico" at the World's Best Airlines Awards in 2018.
Interjet Airlines offers budget-friendly economy travel at various fare tiers, and therefore does not have a Business Class option. However, it offers many perks for passengers, such as a take-off and landing camera screen, a complimentary Interjet magazine with a wide array of articles to enjoy on your trip, and various TV shows and videos to watch on your seat back screen. Some Interjet aircraft also have audio service available. Passengers just connect their headphones, sit back, and enjoy various music and listening programs in both English and Spanish. In addition, complimentary snacks and drinks are served on board, with additional small meals and a variety of alcoholic beverages are available for purchase.
For flights within Mexico, passengers can check-in online from 48 hours to one hour before their flight. If traveling internationally, online check-in begins 24 hours before the flights and continues until two hours before take-off. You can either print your boarding pass or use a digital version in the Interjet or Wallet app. If you don't have any luggage to check, save time by proceeding directly to the gate with your boarding pass.
There are four different Interjet fare rates for its flights: Ultra Light, Light, Optima and Priority. Each rate has its own luggage allowances and restrictions.
Passengers opting for the Optima or Priority fare tier get extra benefits, such as free same-day flight advance and the option to choose your own seat (Optima from the third row and Priority in the first and second row). Priority fare passengers also get preferential boarding. as well as unlimited and free passenger and itinerary changes. For a per-piece fee, Interjet also allows passengers to bring up to five additional checked luggage pieces weighing a maximum of 55 lbs (25 kg) each. The airline offers various add-on travel services, such as car hires, travel insurance and a Cross Border Xpress to help facilitate travel between Tijuana and San Diego.
Interjet offers wheelchair service and arrangements can be made both for unaccompanied minors and passengers traveling with pets. If wheelchair service is needed, the airline recommends passengers arrive one hour earlier than recommended for domestic flights within Mexico and two hours earlier for international flights. This extra time helps ensure the proper handling of all checked items, as well as ample time to provide the needed wheelchair service in a timely manner.
