Philippine Airlines is the national airline of the Philippines, proudly bearing the same name since 1941 and with a history dating back to 1935. Philippine Airlines has its most important hub at Ninoy Aquino International Airport, which serves the capital, Manila. The airline's contemporary fleet is a modern and well-maintained one with an enviable safety record. There are 72 airplanes in all flying under the Philippine Airlines colours, which feature a version of the country's national flag in red, white and blue with a bright orange sun on the tail. Most airplanes are from the Airbus family, with the airline flying A320, A320neo, A330 and A350 models. The airline's fleet also features Boeing 777-300ER airplanes.

The airline flies passengers to more than 30 destinations in the Philippines and in excess of 50 destinations abroad, with flights to North America, Europe, and the Middle East and within Asia giving the airline a near-global reach. Philippine Airlines has a popular frequent flyer programme called Mabuhay Miles. In 2010, after restructuring following the financial crisis of 2008, Philippine Airlines received another important accolade, being voted, in a survey by Readers' Digest magazine, the most trusted airline among Filipino travellers. The independent AirlineRatings gives Philippine Airlines its highest score for safety: an unbeatable seven out of seven.

Philippine Airlines Travel Experience

The decor in every Philippine Airlines cabin is designed to evoke a tropical feel, in relaxing shades of silver, gray, tan, blue and white. Business Class passengers enjoy the facility of a 15-degree angle recline on luxuriously upholstered deep blue seats. There is a 10-inch screen available to each passenger in this cabin and the airline's inflight entertainment includes a selection of the latest Hollywood movies as well as TV series and a wide range of music. There are reading lights as well as USB and electrical charging points for laptops and tablets at each Business Class seat. Cuisine on flights longer than 45 minutes is from a choice of Japanese, Western and Filipino dishes. Dedicated lounges are available at many airports including Toronto, Vancouver, Jakarta, London, and Hong Kong. Economy Class passengers are able to move the lower part of their seats for greater reclining comfort and there is a 9-inch screen to each seat. Meals in this cabin are a blend of traditional Filipino and fusion cuisine. Alcoholic beverages are available to buy. Shorter flights in all classes offer a snack or a light meal and a choice of drinks.

Philippine Airlines Check-in & Baggage

Online check-in opens 24 hours before flight departure and closes an hour before take-off. All passengers, whether on domestic flights within the Philippines or travelling to and from other destinations, are advised to arrive at the airport at least two hours before the departure of their flight.

Allowed Luggage per cabin in Philippine Airlines

Business Class
The checked-in baggage allowance on international routes in Business Class on Philippine Airlines is two pieces per passenger to a maximum allowance of 32 kg (70 lbs) per bag. A carry-on bag with a maximum weight of 7 kg (15 lbs) is allowed for each Business Class passenger. Passengers may also take a laptop computer onboard.

Economy Class
In Economy on international routes, each passenger may check-in two pieces of luggage with a maximum weight of 23 kg or 50 lbs each. Carry on bags are limited to one item per passenger with a weight of no more than 7 kg (15 lbs). A laptop computer is also allowed on board.

Allowed Luggage Size Dimensions

Carry-on bags in all classes to all destinations must not exceed 56 cm x 36 cm x 23 cm (22 in x 14 in x 9 in). Checked in bags, again in all classes must not exceed 158 cm (62 in) in total dimensions, which can be calculated by adding the length, width and height of the bag together.

Additional baggage may be checked in at a cost depending on the size and nature of the item. Philippine Airlines advises contacting the airline's offices for further information and exact costs. Passengers travelling with infants may check-in, in addition to the baggage allowance in the class in which they are seated, a collapsible stroller or car seat.
