Philippine Airlines is the national airline of the Philippines, proudly bearing the same name since 1941 and with a history dating back to 1935. Philippine Airlines has its most important hub at Ninoy Aquino International Airport, which serves the capital, Manila. The airline's contemporary fleet is a modern and well-maintained one with an enviable safety record. There are 72 airplanes in all flying under the Philippine Airlines colours, which feature a version of the country's national flag in red, white and blue with a bright orange sun on the tail. Most airplanes are from the Airbus family, with the airline flying A320, A320neo, A330 and A350 models. The airline's fleet also features Boeing 777-300ER airplanes.
The airline flies passengers to more than 30 destinations in the Philippines and in excess of 50 destinations abroad, with flights to North America, Europe, and the Middle East and within Asia giving the airline a near-global reach. Philippine Airlines has a popular frequent flyer programme called Mabuhay Miles. In 2010, after restructuring following the financial crisis of 2008, Philippine Airlines received another important accolade, being voted, in a survey by Readers' Digest magazine, the most trusted airline among Filipino travellers. The independent AirlineRatings gives Philippine Airlines its highest score for safety: an unbeatable seven out of seven.
