Icelandair is the flag carrier airline for Iceland. Founded in 1937, the airline today has a fleet of 36 passenger planes serving 49 routes. Icelandair is a key airline for one-stop transatlantic flights, thanks to Iceland's geographical location in the North Atlantic. As well as 23 flights to North America, Icelandair also operates 26 routes to and from European cities including London, Copenhagen, Dublin, Paris, Stockholm, and Oslo. All flights depart or arrive at the airline's hub Keflavik Airport, which lies close to Iceland's capital, Reykjavik. The airline is owned by the Icelandair Group and over 4 million passengers fly with Icelandair each year.

The airline has a strong national identity, and many of the Boeing 737, 767 and 757 crafts in the fleet are named after Icelandic volcanoes. It also operates a number of scenic livery routes across the country, showcasing Iceland's natural beauty.

The airline's Saga Club Frequent Flyer program rewards members with exclusive benefits and Saga Points. Frequent fliers can upgrade from the Standard Saga Club program to Silver or Gold Saga Membership.

Icelandair Travel Experience

Icelandair operates three cabin classes; Economy Light, Economy and Saga Class, Icelandair's equivalent to Business Class.
Standard seat selection is available with every ticket. Seat pitch on standard seats is above industry standard at 79/81 cm (31 or 32 inches). Passengers can also book a seat with extra legroom which means a seat pitch of 86cm (34 inches) or even 102 cm (40 inches).

Onboard amenities include the AVOD in-flight entertainment system, with touchscreen monitors at every seat. Economy Class passengers can buy a range of snacks and meals from the onboard Saga Kitchen. Saga Class passengers can enjoy complimentary gourmet meals and drinks. All children aged 2-11 enjoy a free meal and drink on every flight. The majority of Icelandair aircraft also offer free inflight Wi-Fi.

Those with Saga Silver or Saga Gold membership, as well as passengers with a business class credit card for various international airlines, have access to the Icelandair Saga Lounge at Keflavik Airport. These passengers can also enjoy exclusive access to a selection of airline lounges at different airports, such as the Aer Lingus Gold Circle Lounge at London Heathrow, the Galleries Lounge at JFK and the Lufthansa Lounge at Newark.

Icelandair Check-in & Baggage

Online check-in is available from 24 hours ahead of the flight departure time. Passengers wishing to check-in at the airport should arrive at least two hours ahead of the flight departure time. Check-in closes 45-60 minutes before the flight departs.

Self-service check-in kiosks are available at 16 airports. Up to nine passengers can be checked-in at a self-service kiosk in one go. At Keflavík, Billund and Copenhagen Airports passengers can also drop off luggage at the kiosk.

The total size of checked luggage must not exceed 158 cm (62 inches) in total (h + w + l) including wheels and handles.

Additional information

Items of overweight or oversize luggage such as heavy suitcases, sporting equipment and musical instruments can be checked-in for an additional fee.

Icelandair is a child-friendly airline. Each child aged 2-11 has the same baggage allowance as an adult. Fold-down pushchairs and strollers can be taken onboard free of charge. Parents who have booked a seat for infants aged under 2 are permitted to bring a baby car seat onto the plane, provided that a window seat is available.
