Over the centuries, Delhi has developed a rich social tapestry. It is here that you will find some of the oldest and greatest sights in the country. India's most remarkable mosque, the Jama Masjid and the Red Fort. The memorial for Mahatma Gandhi, Rajghat can also be found here and the delicious Chandni Chowk market which sells some of the best street food in the world.
The wide boulevards of New Delhi were built by the British and houses most of the city's museums. The Rajpath, the boulevard that runs from the The Presidential Residence, (Rashtrapati Bhavanis) to the national stadium, is a fine example of the British architecture of the time and a stark difference from the old part of the city. This avenue is where the Republic Day parade takes place each year on the 26th of January. This ceremonial avenue also passes by Connaught Place and India Gate.
There are a range of activities and events occurring in the city from traditional Indian dance and music to worldwide popular culture. Delhi is a vibrant city with so many things going on. Many of the events are held outside because of the sheer number of people, this brings communities closer together and gives the district a sense of occasion.
