Celebrate Australia Day like an Aussie

Australians celebrate their national day, Australia Day, on the 26th of January. A huge line-up of events takes place around the country.
See the famous ferry race Ferrython in Sydney, take in spectacular firework displays in Melbourne, catch an outdoor festival in Brisbane, or watch one of the biggest Australia Day street parades in Adelaide.

A brief introduction into Australia Day

What is Australia Day?

Australia Day is the official national day of Australia. Celebrated annually on January 26th, it marks the anniversary of the 1788 arrival of the First Fleet of British ships at Port Jackson, New South Wales, and the raising of the Flag of Great Britain at Sydney Cove by Governor Arthur Phillip.

What to eat on Australia Day?

Here are some iconic foods to truly celebrate this Australia Day: Get the barbeque started with kangaroo meat, try some Lamington sponge cake, take a bite of an Australian meat pie and enjoy one of Australia's sweet treats, Pavlova, piled high with fresh cream and fruits.

What's happening?

Many Aussies have a day off work and spend the day with their family and friends. Different places in Australia celebrate the day differently. For example, Sydney has boat races including a ferry race, while Adelaide celebrates with a parade and a cricket match.
