Fly with Bulgaria's Leading Airline: Bulgaria Air

After Balkan Bulgarian Airlines became insolvent in 2002, there was a desperate gap in the aviation market for a new local carrier. Thankfully, it didn't take long for this gap to be filled; in December of that year, Bulgaria Air arrived on the scene, initially commencing operations under the mantle of "Balkan Air Tour". Quickly announced as the national flag carrier by the close of 2002, this popular airline earned its current name and logo by public competition and has become a firm fixture in European aviation ever since.

Bulgaria Air became a local market leader in short and medium-haul flights, offering a variety of routes across Europe, Russia and the Middle East. Essential investments and boosts to the original fleet saw the company soar to success in its first decade of operation, becoming a fully-fledged member of the Intentional Air Transport Association in 2008. Based out of Sofia Airport, the airline operates seasonal services to focus destinations including Burgas and Varna, with more and more destinations being added to its roster as its fleet size grows with new acquisitions and leases.

Today, Bulgaria Air has a fleet of 10 Airbuses and Air Embraer aircraft, running regular flights to 26 destinations throughout the year, while also operating a lucrative charter flight service. The company employs more than 1,100 people across its flight network, while their flights carry more than a million passengers to destinations across Europe and the Middle East every year. Still the market leader in native Bulgaria, this enduringly popular airline continues to add more routes to its roster, taking its place as an eminent name in the budget aviation industry.
