Fly with Air Caraïbes

Operating out of Guadeloupe's Pointe-à-Pitre Airport and Martinique, Air Caraïbes began life as a carrier for France's two overseas departments, but has expanded to become one of the leading regional airlines. Proud of its sense of Caribbean style -- its motto translates as "the colourful airline" -- it's a popular and recognized choice.

Its 'Simply' service covers its regional route map between the islands of Guadeloupe, Martinique, Saint-Martin, Saint Lucia and the Dominican Republic. The ATR-72 is perfectly suited to these short and mid-range journeys.

The company is particularly proud of its long-haul service to Paris by A350 XWB -- it's the first French airline to offer it. With its state-of-the-art Rolls-Royce engines and distinctive new wing design, the aircraft shaves 20 minutes off the journey, while adding an extra level of in-cabin comfort.

Choosing the 'Simply' tariff offers travellers an impressive degree of choice: seat reservations cost just 2 euros, and there's a range of different baggage tariffs.

  • The 'Simply' tariff is part of the airline's 'Soleil' range. On longer flights by A330 or A350 aircraft, travelers can enjoy reclining seats, multi-channel programmes of film, TV and music, and in-flight refreshments.

  • 'Caraïbes' - premium economy class - is available on transatlantic flights, with benefits including a wider choice of refreshments as well as priority check-in and baggage services.

  • The business class 'Madras' service, offered on transatlantic routes, includes a more comfortable, spacious seat with divider, phone charger and iPad.

  • 'Preference' is the airline's loyalty program, which starts you off with 3,000 free miles. The Flexil Pro club allows travelers to earn points, even for short, island-hopping voyages -- memberships are available for individuals and companies.

Practical information

Online check-in, 'manage my booking,' and seat reservation services make getting through the airport relatively easy.

For longer journeys:

  • A standard cabin baggage allowance of 12 kg applies, plus one accessory (including a handbag or laptop).

  • Soleil class travellers get 23 kg of hold luggage. This is a single checked bag for most passengers, but Flexil, Silver Plus, Gold or Diamond passengers can check two bags.

  • Most Caraïbes class travellers can check up to two items of hold luggage, within the same 23 kg limit.

  • Madras business travellers are allowed at least two items of hold luggage weighing up to 32 kg.

For most regional journeys, hold luggage costs extra (around 20 euros per item), and the cabin bag limit is 5 kg. The size limit is 55 x 40 x 20 cm.
