Fly with Air Mauritius: The National Airline of Mauritius

Air Mauritius is the island's national airline and was founded in 1967. The company has been very successful in achieving its main aim: to link the beautiful country of Mauritius with the rest of the world. Winner of the Indian Ocean's Leading Airline Award for multiple years, the company employs around 2,700 staff members and has a fleet of 13 aircraft. There are two helicopters in the fleet which offer luxury transfers from the airport to hotels for an additional fee. The business head office is located in Port Louis, Mauritius.

Europe is currently the main market for the airline, but they also offer routes to Australia, Africa and Asia. In total the airline flies to 24 different destinations across the world. Cargo transportation is a large part of the corporation's business and accounts for roughly 15% of the annual turnover.

Flying the flag for the island, Air Mauritius promotes tourism and economic development. It is one of Mauritius' largest companies and is a supporter of any business that encourages trade for the nation. Passenger numbers continue to climb for the airline as more travelers discover the delights of Mauritius and neighbouring Rodrigues.

Before the Flight

The airline suggests that international flyers check in 3 hours before the flight to allow enough time for security checks. There is a Premium check-in desk for business class passengers. It is possible to upgrade your seat at the airport if there are spaces available.

Luggage Allowance:

On Air Mauritius flights, each economy class passenger can carry on one piece of hand luggage and each business class passenger can carry on two pieces.

  • Hand luggage must measure less than 115 cm in total (L+W+H) and weigh less than 7 kg

  • Passengers can also carry on a coat, jacket or blanket and a laptop if needed

The amount of luggage that can be checked into the hold differs depending on the route and the class of travel, so check your allowance as you book your flight to the luxury destination of Mauritius.

Flight Options

With Air Mauritius, you can choose to fly economy class or business class. In economy, the seat pitch is 79 cm (31 inches) and in-flight meals and movies are provided. There are extra legroom seats available for an extra fee. In business class, there are lie-flat seats with massage options and special lumbar support. Upgraded meals and movies are provided.

A loyalty scheme, named Kestrel Flyer, is available with red, silver and gold levels. Passengers start on the red level, but can achieve higher statuses the more they travel with the airline. Rewards include free flights, extra luggage allowance, and upgrades.
