Events in Tokyo

As you would expect from one of Asia's most culturally diverse cities, Tokyo's streets are almost constantly bustling with one event or another throughout the year.

Festival/Performing Arts Festival

Six venues across the city regularly host an inspirational cultural event that fuses dance and theatre attracting a wide range of nationalities, generations, and artistic styles.

Oji Kitsune-no-gyoretsu Fox Parade (December)

From the last day of December overnight to New Year's Day, people gather in the city to celebrate the legend of foxes disguising themselves as humans to visit the Oji Inari-jinja Shrine. Every year the Tokyo community makes a huge effort to keep old traditions alive, with shrine-goers lining the streets holding chochin lanterns that represent the light of life and hope.

New Year's Eve (December)

As a huge tourist and commerce hub in Asia, the city plays holds to extravagant New Year's Eve celebrations. There's plenty to experience, from traditional Japanese performing arts, fireworks, food and raffles given out in the streets.
